What is?

ARTivism

Artivism, a powerful fusion of art and activism, represents a form of creative expression that aims to inspire social or political change. It’s a dynamic way for artists to use their talents to address and challenge societal issues, conveying messages that resonate beyond the confines of traditional activism.
In a world inundated with information, artivism stands out as a compelling and accessible means of raising awareness. It transforms spaces into galleries of societal reflection, inviting viewers to question, contemplate, and ultimately participate in the dialogue surrounding critical issues. Through artivism, artists become advocates, pushing the boundaries of creativity to bring about a more conscious and compassionate world.

“art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.”

feminist artivism

Feminist artivism blends feminist principles with art to challenge discriminatory gender norms and address gender-based violence (GBV).

Using various mediums, artists aim to expose and critique societal flaws perpetuating gender inequality. The goal is not only to confront existing norms but also to redefine expectations surrounding gender. Through exhibitions and performances, feminist artivism amplifies the voices of GBV survivors, fostering community and empowerment. In a world still entrenched in patriarchal structures, this movement serves as a pragmatic call to action, pushing for tangible progress toward gender equity.

One of the central goals of feminist artivism is to expose the pervasive nature of gender norms and the harmful consequences they perpetuate. Artistic creations serve as mirrors, reflecting the societal flaws that sustain gender inequality. By unveiling these uncomfortable truths, feminist artists provoke introspection and inspire dialogue, paving the way for collective enlightenment.

zine

A zine (short for “magazine” or “fanzine”) is a self-published, booklet or magazine that is usually produced by a single person or a small group.

Zines often focus on niche topics, they are typically created using a variety of materials such as photocopies, collage, and typewritten text. In a world dominated by digital media, there’s a certain charm in the tactile experience of flipping through the pages of a zine, each one a unique amalgamation of art and activism. Zine making isn’t just about crafting a publication; it’s a form of artivism – a platform for expressing ideas, sharing stories, and sparking conversations on issues that matter.

Mural

Mural artivism is a vibrant form of activism that uses large-scale public murals to address pressing social, political, and environmental issues.

murals serve as powerful visual statements, often found in public spaces, captivating passersby and sparking conversations. However, the essence of mural artivism can also be recreated on paper using markers, offering a more portable and accessible means of expression.
