ART
THERAPY

Art therapy is a form of expressive therapy that utilises creative arts such as painting, drawing, dance, theatre, sculpting and more to help individuals explore and understand their emotions, thoughts, and experiences. It’s based on the idea that through creative expression, people can delve into their inner selves and embark on a journey of self-discovery.
Whether you choose to create yourself or enjoy someone else’s art – is a relaxing and inspiring activity for many people. But its advantages are not limited to enjoyment; they also include stress relief, emotional release, self-discovery, and self-esteem.

Take pART! is a project that brings together art, psychology, and activism to give vulnerable women and youth a voice to shine a light on social issues with a gender sensitive approach.

Art therapy and artivism have been chosen as the means towards active participation and inclusion because they bring therapeutic and communicative benefits, and help people explore freedom of expression.

Gender empowerment, particularly focusing on women, is a crucial goal for creating a more equitable and just society. The European Institute for Gender Equality outlines key components of women’s empowerment, emphasising self-worth, autonomy, access to opportunities, control over one’s life, and the ability to influence social change. Art therapy emerges as a powerful tool within this framework, offering opportunities for women, especially vulnerable populations, to explore and enhance their sense of self.

In the realm of education, training, and awareness, art therapy becomes a natural complement. It provides a safe space for women to express their feelings, build interpersonal skills, and expand their choices and options. Through creative outlets, women can navigate their emotions, fostering self-confidence and self-wortha

collage art

Collage art is one of the techniques that serves a dual purpose within Take pART!,
acting as both a therapeutic method and a tool for empowerment.

This artistic practice facilitates emotional processing and healing by providing individuals with a structured means of containing and expressing their experiences. The spontaneity inherent in collage creation counters the dampening effect of trauma on spontaneity and play, allowing for a dynamic and liberating artistic process.

Collage art merges diverse materials into visually engaging compositions, fostering individual expression. It becomes a powerful tool for self-discovery, as hidden meanings and emotions surface through the artistic process. Collage art serves as a visual diary, offering introspection and deeper insights.

Clowning

Clowning is another technique used in art therapy. Did you know that clowning goes beyond laughter and entertainment?

Creating a clown character becomes more than just a performance—it’s a therapeutic intervention. The physical and mental exercises involved in this experiential journey cultivate a sense of foolery and foolishness, inviting participants to embrace the healing power of the fool within.

The clown, with its playful spirit, becomes a guide, expanding an individual’s repertoire and gently nudging them towards understanding and accepting their core nature.

Clown therapy isn’t just about the red nose and oversized shoes; it’s a journey of self-discovery and acceptance. Through foolery and playfulness, individuals discover newfound avenues for self-expression, breaking down barriers that once seemed insurmountable.
